Softball Splits Pair on Sunday in Virginia

SALEM, VA--The Bloomsburg University softball team split a pair of games on Sunday at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament in Salem, Virginia. The Huskies beat West Virginia State, 8-0 in five innings, then lost to Gannon by a 4-0 score.

Against West Virginia State, the Huskies got all the runs it would need in a six-run fourth inning. Jess Snader (Mount Joy/Donegal) walked to open the inning and moved to second on a single by Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport). Nikki Shiko (Kulpmont/Southern Columbia) each followed with RBI singles to make it a 2-0 game. After Stacey Krupiewski (Trooper/Methacon) singled to load the bases, Missy Bachert (Coplay/Parkland) hit a grand slam to make it 6-0. Shiko and English both finished 2-3 in the game with an RBI.

Sheelin Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) earned the win allowing just two hits and striking out five.

In game two, Gannon University defeated the Huskies, 4-0. Gannon scored two runs each in both the first and third innings to get the win.

Bloomsburg's best chance to score came in the fourth inning when the Huskies had first and third with one out, but could not score.

The Huskies go to 13-5 with the split and will be back in action on Friday, March 30th hosting Shippensburg at 2 p.m.
